The Power of Tea Tree Essential Oil
Tea tree oil, also known as
melaleuca oil is a very pale (almost clear) golden color essential oil. It is taken from the leaves of the Melaleuca
alternifolia which is native to the northeast coast of New
South Wales, Australia.
The oil is believed to have beneficial cosmetic and medical properties
(including antiseptic and antifungal action).
The term "tea tree
oil" is somewhat misleading since Melaleuca alternifolia is a paperbark
rather than a tea tree. Tea tree oil is not the same as tea oil, the sweet
seasoning and cooking oil from pressed seeds of the tea plant Camellia sinensis
an it should also not be confused with the tea oil plant Camellia oleifera.
Although Tea tree is used in
a variety of ways it is one of the most effective essential oils for the
treatment of acne. Tea tree oils are disinfectant, antibiotic, and clear up
facial skin infected with boils. The Australian aboriginals apply Tea tree
leaves directly to wounds that are infected, burned, or otherwise injured.
Compelling evidence in clinical studies concluded that besides acne Tea tree
essential oils are potent in the treatment of eczema, psoriasis, athlete’s
foot, and as an antiseptic in a variety of infections.
Tea tree came to be known
throughout the world from its place of origin, Australia,
though they are found among New
Zealand trees and shrubs as well.

distilled from the plant’s leaves. The leaves were formerly only used to make
tea, however a wide range of products are made from the Tea Trees today,
including cosmetics, lotions, creams, ointments, shampoos, and even household
cleansers. It is an effective agent in keeping skin and hair healthy and
lustrous. Adding a few drops to your

essential oil is also used as wonderful massage oil. Adding a few drops to your
bath will not only have a relaxing effect but also help ward off coughs and
colds.
Tea Tree essential oils are
well known for increasing the potency of the immune system; it fights
infectious organisms, such as fungi, bacteria, and various viruses. So, in
other words Tee Tree oil is great as an antihistamine, antioxidant, antiseptic
and aids with such things as body-odor, bronchial congestion, bruises, burns,
carbuncles, gangrene, impetigo, insect bites, lice, lung inflammation,
melanoma, ring worms, sinus infections, sore throat, tonsillitis, and general
